Hisun Central R&D Institute has a nationally recognized Enterprise Technology Center and a Post-Doctoral Research Center, with nearly 600 R&D related employees. The annual R&D investment accounts for more than 8% of the revenue.
The R&D institute covers an area of 20,000 square meters, backed by a cumulative investment of more than 500 million RMB. The R&D center comprises a comprehensive R&D platform closely linked to manufacturing. It focuses on six areas covering the key fields of microbiology, synthesis, biotechnology, enzyme engineering, drug formulations and natural compounds. The R&D institute consists of functional centers on drug screening, strain identification and preservation, instrument analysis, an information center and EHS analysis, amongst others. Each R&D center is equipped with research laboratories, and small or medium-scale facilities to perform pilot production runs that provide a seamless connection for new products from the laboratory to an industrial scale production. At the same time, the R&D institute also has a few specialized departments on project management, intellectual property, drug registration, routine maintenance and support.
Hisun has established research institutes in Shanghai and Beijing, both specializing in R&D and covers areas such as biotechnology, chemical synthesis, microbial fermentation and a series of APIs and their formulations. The manufacturing facility produces small molecule drug candidates in therapeutic fields such as anti-tumor, anti-parasite, hypolipidemic, anti-infection, endocrine regulation, immunosuppressive, anti-depression, amongst others. In order to actively respond to the emerging opportunities and challenges stemming from widespread change in the global pharmaceutical industry market, Hisun leverages not only on our own strength, but also extensively cooperates with domestic and foreign scientific research institutions and world-leading pharmaceutical partners in the drug discovery, manufacturing development, clinical research and other areas.

Hisun Technology Center has nearly 600 R&D staff, over 960 with bachelor’s degrees or above. Hisun was named as “Innovation and Entrepreneurship Base for Overseas Top Talents” by the Zhejiang Provincial People's Government, and the Hisun R&D Institute was awarded the distinction of "Zhejiang Science and Technology Innovation Team". The Hisun Technology Center has an Intellectual Property Department. It is supported by both professional legal institutions in China and professional law firms from abroad including the United States, Britain, Germany, and France, which secure strong legal protection for Hisun's patent portfolio. In addition, Hisun has a group of domestic and foreign patent experts who provide patent services for Hisun. Hisun's intellectual property is global and well protected.
At present, patent applications have been submitted to the United States, Europe, Australia, Japan and more. Patent applications cover innovative compounds, new types of crystalline compounds, new methods for synthesis, new drug applications and new drug compositions and more.
